Abstract
Conclusions1.Bis(triphenylphosphine)bis(trifluoroacetato)palladium in aqueous solutions of trifluoroacetic acid catalyzes the isotope exchange of hydrogen between dihydrogen and the protons of the solvent.2.Hydrogen exchange proceeds through the formation and decomposition of a hydride complex of palladium, the hydrogen atom in which is capable of exchanging with the protons of the solvent.3.The introduction of ethylene into the system lowers the rate of the hydrogen exchange reaction, and the presence of a mixture of ethylene and carbon monoxide completely inhibits this reaction.
