Abstract
A simple alternative method to the catalytic hydrogenation of cyclododecene is reported. It is based on the reductive system composed of nickel(II) chloride dihydrate, lithium, and a catalytic amount of naphthalene. This combination for the reduction of olefins avoids the handling of molecular hydrogen, the water contained in the nickel salt being the source of hydrogen.
