Abstract
Abstract 4-hydroxy- l -proline (Hyp) is a ubiquitous amino acid naturally-occurred in proteins such as collagens. Owing to the easy accessibility and unique structural features, Hyp can be exploited as an interesting building block for the design of novel biomimetic and biodegradable polymers with fascinating materials properties and biological applications. This review highlights recent progresses regarding Hyp-derived polymers and oligomers including polypeptides, polyesters, polythioesters, γ-peptides, and oligourethanes, with an emphasis on the structural design and synthesis. Perspective and future directions are briefly summarized at the end of review.
