Abstract
INCE a systematic study by Weyne and S Roussell on the use of hydroxyzine hydrochloride in clinical anesthesia was published, it has been widely employed in preanesthetic medication.2-8 Although many reports have recently appeared in favor of this drug:-12 its value in preoperative sedation has been questioned.l3 None of these prior studies, however, represented an objective, double-blind evaluation of the efficacy and safety of hydroxyzine for preanesthetic medication and/or sedation of obstetric patients. Therefore, it seemed of interest to evaluate in a double-blind study the effect of this agent on anxiety during labor. *
