Abstract
Abstract NG,N′G-Dimethylarginine and NG,NG-dimethylarginine were identified in the dimethylarginine fraction isolated from bovine basic A1 protein. NG,N′G-Dimethylarginine and NG,NG-dimethylarginine were degraded in alkali to methylamine and dimethylamine, respectively, and a combined gas chromatographic-mass spectrometric method was used to identify these amines as their benzamides. Methylamine and dimethylamine were found in a 2:1 ( w w ) ratio in the alkaline hydrolyzate suggesting that the NG,N′G-dimethylarginine and NG,NG-dimethylarginine are present in this ratio in the dimethylarginine fraction.
