Abstract
SUMMARY Forty-four trials using succinylcholine chloride to produce immobilization, through temporary muscle paralysis in seventeen species of captive wild animals are reported. It is apparent that there is considerable variation between species with respect to drug dose per pound required to produce complete immobilization and with respect to the margin of safety of the drug. In highly nervous and fractious animals where a risk of death due to shock secondary to fright produced by the immobilization exists, the administration of tranquillizers prior to immobilization is suggested.
