Abstract
Abstract An inexpensive new dye, Fast Red Salt KL, is introduced for the determination of enzymically generated oxalacetic acid. Its properties and price are favourably compared with those of the generally used diazonium salts Fast Red PDC and Fast Violet B. Fast Red PDC, until recently used in the Sequential Multiple Analyzers1, is shown to be inferior to the others, except for its higher sensitivity. Although Fast Violet B has some advantages over Fast Red KL, the latter is to be preferred. The parameters pertaining to the colorimetric reaction of Fast Red KL are studied in detail. Using the new dye, an automated system has been set up for the assay of serum glutamic-oxalacetic transaminase (SGOT ∗∗ ).
