Abstract
E)-4-bromo-3-methyl-2-butenoic acid was conveniently synthesized from 3-methyl-2-butenoic acid in 29% overall yield.In this procedure,the title compound was easily obtained by hydrolysis of (E)-trimethylsilyl 4-bromo-3-methyl-2-butenoate,which could be isolated from its mixture of Z-/E-isomer by distillation in vacuo.The isomeric mixture was prepared via the esterification of 3-methyl-2-butenoic acid with chlorotrimethylsilane,followed by bromination with NBS.
