Abstract
In this paper, we report on the use of adiponitrile (ADN) as an additive in ethylene carbonate (EC) electrolyte for capacitors. To confirm the effect of the ADN additive, the thermal and electrochemical stabilities of the electrolyte were examined by differential scanning calorimetry and linear sweep voltammetry. The electrochemical analysis of the electrolyte–electrode was carried out by cyclic voltammetry. The morphology of electrode surface was examined by scanning electron microscopy. The optimal composition of co-solvent was EC/ADN 7:3 mixture, which showed good electrochemical performance with high ionic conductivity (11.69 mS/cm), capacitance (44.6 F/g), cycle retention (98% after 2000 cycles), and low resistance of between the electrolyte and the electrode surface. It means that the ADN additive in EC electrolyte can produce a better interfacial film and be considered as a suitable electrolyte for capacitors.
