Abstract
The gallocyanine-chromalum method of Einarson (Einarson, L. Amer. 1. Path. 8: 295. 1932) is frequently applied in neurohistology. In combination with cytophotometry it may be used to measure the alterations in basophilia which is related to changes in cell metabolism (Pakkenberg, H. World Neurology, vol. 2, 1964). I have observed that sections stained by Einarson’s method faded within a relatively short time. This observation led to an analysis of the exact time relation of fading under different external circumstances and of the possible influence of various mounting media on this process.
