Abstract
Field experiments were conducted in 1985 and 1986 to determine the effects of the plant growth regulators dikegulac sodium (Atrinal), chlormequat chloride (Cycocel), mefluidide (Embark), and methyl octanoate and decanoate (Off-Shoot-O) on development of azalea lace bug, Stephanitis pyrioides (Scott), on Rhododendron sp. Foliar sprays of mefluidide significantly slowed ALB development 11 d after treatment in both years. Accelerated development occurred with methyl octanoate and decanoate 19 d after foliar treatment in both years. These inhibitory and stimulatory effects may have been related to azalea nutritional quality.
