Abstract
By uv photolysis of matrix-isolated trifluoromethanesulfinyl fluoride, CF/sub 3/S(O)F, the isomer CF/sub 3/OSF is formed. Structural and bonding parameters of this first fluorosulfenyl ester are evaluated from the vibrational frequencies of the natural and the /sup 13/C- and /sup 18/O-enriched species. CF/sub 3/OSF is decomposed by prolonged UV irradiation to COF/sub 2/ and SF/sub 2/. Attempts to photoisomerize CF/sub 3/S(O)F on a preparative scale lead to mixtures of COF/sub 2/, SOF/sub 2/, CF/sub 3/SSCF/sub 3/, and C/sub 2/F/sub 6/ in the gas phase as well as in solution. 22 refs., 2 figs., 5 tabs.
