Abstract
Abstract Acetamidophenol, which is an antipyretic and analgesic agent devoid of anti-inflammatory properties, suppressed those effects of bradykinin, ATP, slow reacting substance C and arachidonic acid which are usually prevented by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Acetamidophenol also shared with anti-inflammatory drugs the ability to inhibit a prostaglandin synthetase from rabbit platelets, at comparable concentrations. The role of isoenzymes of prostaglandin synthetase and of the different possible prostaglandin precursors is discussed with respect to anti-inflammation and to antipyresis.
