Abstract
Summary The administration of dimidium bromide in a dosage of 2 or 3 mg./ Kg. to normal Zebu-type cattle regularly produced liver dysfunction. Biochemical evidence of this dysfunction was provided by the appearance of a direct Van den Bergh reaction at about day 40. Weight records together with serial estimations of non-protein nitrogen and alkaline phosphatase indicated a disturbance beginning at about the same time. The dysfunction was associated with periportal degeneration of the liver, at first largely of a hydropic type, but rapidly becoming fatty. Residual lesions were slight. The possible relationship to conditioned deficiencies of essential metabolites is discussed.
