Abstract
Reaction of N-(2-(4-imidazolyl)ethyl)pyrimidine-4-carboxamide (PrpepH, 4), a ligand that resembles a portion of the metal-chelating locus of the antitumor drug bleomycin with FeCl 2 •2H 2 O and 1,8-bis(dimethylamino)naphthalene in methanol affords the «bis» complex [Fe(Prpep) 2 ]•2CH 3 OH (5) in good yield. The Fe(III) complex [Fe(Prpep) 2 ]ClO 4 •2CH 3 OH•CH 3 CN is obtained from a reaction mixture containing [Fe(DMSO) 6 ](ClO 4 ) 3 •DMSO, PrpepH, and 1,8-bis(dimethylamino)naphthalene in acetonitrile/methanol. The Fe(II) complex 5 crystallizes in the triclinic space group P1
