Abstract
Abstract Kievitone, an isoflavanone, occurs in hypocotyls of Phaseolus vulgaris L. infected with Rhizoctonia solani Kuhn. This phytoalexin is also induced in bean pods in response to a 3·0 m m solution of CuCl2. Approximately 50 μg kievitone is present per gram fresh weight of diseased hypocotyl. The ED50 for inhibition of radial mycelial growth of R. solani is 60 μg/ml in PDA. Kievitone represents the principal antifungal component of “substance II”.
