Abstract
Abstract Deprotonation of 2,4-dinitrophenyl-2,4,6-trinitrophenylmethane (C-acid) by five cryptands, 221, 222, 222B, 22 and di(PhCH 2 )22, in acetonitrile has been studied by visible and 1 H NMR spectroscopy. The reaction of C-acid with the cryptands in acetonitrile solution gives a stable, asymmetric carbanion and a protonated base. Kinetic and equilibrium measurements for reactions of C-acid with five cryptands have been completed.
