Abstract
Conclusions1.A study has been made of the kinetic relationships in the hydrolysis of 2'-aminobenzanilide, 2',4'-diaminobenzanilide, 2'-4-diaminobenzanilide, and 2', 3-diaminobenzanilide in aqueous H2SO4, solutions at 70–90°C.2.Under conditions such that the relative concentration of the benzanilide form that is not protonated at the 2'-amino group can be neglected, the hydrolysis is effected through two pathways: a) through monomolecular decomposition of benzanilide molecules that are ionized only at the 2'-amino group; b) through the formation of a complex of water with benzanilide molecules with ionized 2'-amino and amide groups.3.The kinetic data have been used to calculate the rate constants for these pathways and the basicity constants of the amide groups of these benzanilides.
