Solvent Extraction and Ion Exchange
Abstract
ABSTRACT The distribution behavior of ion association complexes of tetrahalogenopalladate(II) ions PdX4 2-. (X˜=chloride, bromide and iodide ions) with quaternary ammonium cations between chloroform and an aqueous phase was examined and extraction constants(log Kex) were determined. Linear relationships between log Kex and the number of carbon atoms in the quaternary ammonium ions were observed: from the slope of the line, the contribution of a methylene group to log Kex was found to be 0.63. The extractability with alkyltrimethylammonium cations was larger than that with symmetrical tetra-alkylammonium cations and the differences in log Kex for two cations with the same ammonium cations between chloroform and an aqueous number of carbon atoms were about 3.2 for pdc142- and about 2.3 for pdBr42-. The extractability of PdX42- was in the orders pdCl4 2- > pdI4 2: the differences in log Kex between two successive ions for alkyltrimethylammonium cations averaged about 2.3 and 5.5.
