Abstract
Abstract Methyltrioxorhenium(VII) (MTO), known as an efficient olefin epoxidation catalyst, also catalyses the oxidation of metal carbonyls by hydrogen peroxide. Thus, treatment of the metal carbonyl precursor (η 5 -C 5 Me 5 )Re(CO) 3 with H 2 O 2 in the presence of catalytic amounts of MTO at temperatures ranging between −40 and 25°C gives trioxo(η 5 -pentamethylcyclopentadienyl)rhenium(VII) in almost quantitative isolated yield. Mild reaction conditions and high yields are the particular advantages of the new synthesis.
