Abstract
Abstract The mercury-sensitized photolysis of hydrogen with N-trimethylborazine using 2537 A radiation produces a new borazine derivative 1,2-di(3′,5′-dimethylborazinyl)ethane (DMBE). This compound is identified by mass, i.r., 1H and 11B NMR and u.v. spectral data. The reaction proceeds by a free radical mechanism initiated by hydrogen atoms. The existence of two borazine radicals, (CH3)3N3B3H2·(R1) and H3B3N3(CH3)2CH2·(R2), are postulated.
