Abstract
Human fetal liver tissue was incubated with estradiol-17β-16-C14. By the carrier dilution technique, radioactive estriol, 16-epiestriol and estrone were identified and their radiochemical purity was established. In addition, a radioactive estriol glucosiduronic acid was found and purified. The poor yields of these metabolites, the low recovery of the substrate and the demonstration of conjugate formation point to an active role of the fetal liver in the metabolism of maternal estrogens.
