Abstract
Abstract Potentiometric studies have been carried out on metal chelates of uranium(VI) and thorium (IV) with disodium-1: 8-dihydroxynaphthalene-3: 6-disulphonate (CTS). The Calvin-Bjerrum pH-titration technique, as used by Irving and Rossotti, has been applied to determine the stepwise protonation constants of the ligand and the stepwise formation constants of the chelates. The changes of colour during titration have been related to the formation of different complex species in solution. The experiments were carried out with a constant ionic medium of 0·1 M NaClO 4 and at a constant room temperature of 25°C.
