Abstract
Abstract Nitrile adducts have been obtained in high yield from tricarbonyliron(1+) salts by the use of the reagents trimethylsilyl cyanide and tetra-n-butylammonium cyanide. Trimethylsilyl cyanide is a versatile reagent which is superior to sodium cyanide for this purpose, and its use is the method of choice in cases where a terminal alkyl group is present on the dienyl system. Tetra-n-butylammonium cyanide is a useful reagent only in cases where the site of reaction is unsubstituted.
