Abstract
Abstract Microwave spectra of the trans and gauche isomers of 1-iodopropane have been measured. A least-squares analysis for the observed frequencies gave rotational constants and nuclear quadrupole coupling constants of the two isomers. Several forbidden transitions with Δ J = ±2 and ±3 which are induced from the strong coupling effect between the energy levels in accidentally near-degeneracy connected by a large off-diagonal element χ ab of the quadrupole coupling constant tensor could be observed for both the trans and the gauche isomers. Several b -type transitions could be observed by an effect similar to the above despite the smallness of the b -dipole component for the trans isomer and the A rotational constant could be well determined though the isomer is very close to the symmetric top.
