Abstract
Abstract The microwave spectrum of 2,3-difluorobenzonitrile was observed from 7 to 10 GHz by molecular beam Fourier transform microwave spectrometry. The rotational and nitrogen quadrupole coupling constants were determined as A =2260.1475(25) MHz, B =1182.8638(2) MHz, C =776.3842(1) MHz, χ aa =−3.856(10) MHz , and χ min =−0.136(18) MHz . The principal values of the coupling constants derived from the experiment reveal that the CN bond deviated slightly from cylindrical symmetry, similar to the CN bond of 3-fluorobenzonitrile. However, we could not definitively determine the effect of fluorine position on the field gradient of the nitrogen nuclei.
