Abstract
Abstract Rotational transitions of 1-nitropropene arising from the ground vibrational state and from three excited states of the nitro torsional vibration have been assigned. The values of the rotational constants in MHz are: A 0 =10 650B 0 =2028.56C 0 1722.16A 1 10 615 B 1 =2028.47 C 1 =1725.11 A 2 10 570 B 2 2028.31 C 2 = 1727.32 A 3 = 10 512 B 3 2028.11 C 3 =1729.37The dipole moment components are μ a = 4.52 D, μ b = 0.42 D and μ total = 4.54 D. From the lack of observable internal rotation splittings the barrier to internal rotation of the methyl group is shown to be greater than 2250 cal/mole.
