Abstract
Dinex a was known to be an effective molluscicide even before sodium pentachlorophenate (NaPCP), and against Oncomelania nosophora, the snail vector of Schistosoma japonicum, was shown to be about four times as toxic as NaPCP b, c, d, e. Extensive field tests with dinex were also made against the aquatic vector of S. mansoni in Egypt with good results.f Nevertheless, despite the fact that dinex holds a relatively favourable position as a molluscicide, NaPCP has been used much more extensively in this role. With this as background, it was judged that dinex in the DN-1 formulation of the Dow Chemical Company, Midland, Mich., USA, should be evaluated against Australorbis glabratus according to a standardized procedure that has been reported by the present authors.0 The purpose of this note is to report the results of this evaluation.
