Abstract
is a technique of tensing and relaxing different muscles or muscle groups throughout the body in a systematic way, to release muscle tension and condition the body and the mind to distinguish tension from relaxation. Thoughts and events throughout each day can produce muscle tension in the body that maintains feelings of stress and anxiety. Deep muscle relaxation reduces physiological tension and relaxes anxious feelings. Technique: Progressive muscle relaxation can be practiced lying down or sitting in a chair. Each muscle or muscle group is tensed for 5 to 7 seconds, and then relaxed for 10 to 20 seconds.
