Abstract
The crystal structure of N-methylmethanesulfonamide, C2H7NO2S, which is liquid under ambient conditions, has been determined at low temperature. Both the methyl group and H atom bonded to the amide N atom are in a gauche conformation with respect to the sulfonyl methyl group; the C—N—S—C and H—N—S—C torsion angles are −65.57 (20) and 71 (2)°, respectively. This finding is in contrast to previously published ab initio calculations for this molecule.
