Abstract
In concentrations of 1% to 2%, N-isopropyl-N′-phenyl-p-phenylenediamine (N-(1methylethyl)-N′-phenyl-1,4-benzenediamine; IPPD) is used as a stabilizer (antioxidant) in rubber. Its main use is in tyre manufacture (OECD 2004). In addition, antiozonants such as N-isopropyl-N′-phenyl-p-phenylenediamine are found also in other rubber products, for example (squash) balls, (protective) breathing masks, motorbike handles, boots, wrist watch straps, rubber arm bands, spectacle straps or orthopaedic bandages (Andersen et al. 2006).
