Abstract
An experimental work has been done to measure the third-order optical nonlinearity of 2,5-dimethylaniline (DMA). The nonlinear refractive index, n2 was measured for three different concentrations of DMA in methanol, using the Z-scan technique. Three different wavelengths of a continuous wave Ar-Ion laser were used with varying incident powers. The Z-scan results give a negative n2, with a magnitude of the order of 10−14 esu. For all the wavelengths, the value of n2 was found to increase with increasing concentration of DMA in the solution.
