Abstract
Abstract Rats working for stimulation of the hypothalamus were injected with Parnate and alpha -methyl- meta -tyrosine. A sustained high-level of free norepinephrine was thereby made available to central reactive sites. Self-stimulation behavior was greatly facilitated. Norepinephrine therefore seems to exert excitatory effects on the reward system. Other experiments with tetrabenazine supported this conclusion.
