Abstract
Several N-substituted aminoethanethiols and N-sub-stituted aminoethanethiol S-sulfonic acids were tested as potential radioprotective agents.2-(2′-Carbamidoethylamino)-ethanethiol (Ia), 2-(2′-carboxyethylamino)-ethanethiol (Ib), 2-(2′-cyanoethyl-amino)-ethanethiol (Ic), and 2-(2′-carbamidoethylamino)-ethane-thiol S-sulfonic acid (IIa) exhibited significant protective effects against ionizing radiation.Compound Ia showed the highest activity and was selected for further radiation-protection test studies. The structure-activity relationships of this class of compounds are discussed.
