Abstract
The alkylidenephthalide moiety is an important structural motif commonly encountered in biologically active molecules (Figure 1). For example, the natural product thunberginol F and its derivatives possess antiallergic and antimicrobial effects. Chlorinated 3-benzalphthalides exhibit antiHIV activity, and the Chinese angelica ingredient 3-butylACHTUNGTRENNUNGidenephthalide[3] possesses for example, antidiabetic, antispasmodic, anticoagulant, and antiproliferative effects.
