Abstract
A combination of quinestrol (ethinyl estradiol 3-cyclopentyl ether), a long-acting estrogen, and quingestanol acetate (norethindrone acetate-3-cyclopentyl enol ether), a progestagen, was studied in 256 healthy, fertile women for 2610 cycles. The drugs were given by mouth once every 4 weeks irrespective of the timing of menstruation and proved to be effective as a contraceptive. Cycle control was good with normal menses which usually began 6 to 14 days after administration of quinestrol-quingestanol. Side effects were similar to those reported for other estrogen-progestin oral contraceptives.
