Abstract
Abstract A crystal for potential nonlinear optical applications, namely 1-(furan-2-yl)-3-(3, 4, 5-trimethoxyphenyl) prop-2-en-1-one (FT3MP), has been synthesized using slow evaporation technique. The functional groups present in the compound have been studied with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The Z-scan technique with the single beam was used to examine the third-order NLO properties of the crystal. The measured nonlinear optical absorption coefficient (β), nonlinear refractive index (n2) and the third order nonlinear optical susceptibility (χ(3)) of FT3MP suggest that the crystal is good for possible photonic applications.
