Abstract
Abstract Tris(4-bromophenyl)amine is an effective electron transfer mediator for the indirect oxidation of amines. Using an undivided cell and a methanol + methylenedichloride medium, benzyl amines may be converted to the corresponding Schiff base in excellent yield; with amines where there are hydrogens on the β-carbon, however, no simple products are isolated and it is likely that the imine intermediate polymerises. It is shown that the selectivity as well as the maximum current density for such indirect oxidations depends strongly on the electrolysis conditions.
