Abstract
The paper deals with the anodic oxidation of diacetone-L-sorbose (DAS) to diacetone-2-keto-l-gulonic acid (DAG) at a peroxidized nickel foam electrode. A stirred cell and a flow cell were used at 29°–30°C and/or 60°C with 1 M aqueous KOH containing nickel ions and 0.9 to 9 wt% of pure DAS as the electrolyte. High conversions of DAS to DAG, a maximum chemical yield of 90% and a faradaic yield of about only 20% were obtained.
