Abstract
Abstract The ozonolysis of 1-phenylazo-2-naphthol was studied using ozone in an oxygen stream. 1-Phenylazo-2-naphthol reacts with ozone to give benzene, chlorobenzene, phenol, o-naphthoquinone, phthalide and phthalic anhydride. The mechanism of the reaction is explained as an electrophilic attack of ozone with the hydrazone tautomer of 1-phenylazo-2-naphthol.
