Abstract
Boric acid (H3BO3) is a non-permitted preservative used in various food preparations. In this paper, a study on localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) toward the presence of boric acid is presented. Spherical AuNPs were grown on quartz substrate using seed mediated growth method. The detection of boric acid was done by observing the plasmonic responses of the nanoparticles in deionized water and boric acid solution. The plasmonic responses were observed to be sensitive toward the presence of boric acid. The sensing parameters are based on changing the resonance peak position and its intensity showed a linear relationship with the boric acid concentrations.
