Abstract
This paper investigates “How employees behave in a ego state” and “the impact of their behaviour on individual job performance of the employees”. Ego state model basically consist of three ego states namely parent, adult and child ego state developed by Eric Berne which specifies communication between the persons under the influence of same or different ego state. In this study we analyzed behaviour of employees in different ego state and significant impact of their attitude and behaviour on their job performance. This study reveals that each employee has all three ego states but it switch from one ego state to another, it’s all depend on person’s comfort with any ego state for a particular period of time and the type of attitude he/she inherit under any ego state. In any organization the anger and happiness is the result of communication between the employees under different ego state. Effective communication among the employees is possible only when a employee in a one ego state expect other employee to behave in a way which he supposed to behave. Ego state model helps organization to anticipate behaviour of employees and take corrective measures to spread harmony among the employees by providing training and motivating them, which will result improved performance of employees as well as organization. In present dynamic environment, organizations are looking for the candidates those are more organization fit rather than job fit because employee could have been given the responsibility of one or more department and with employee of other department too, so he/she should be able to protect yourself as he/she is supposed to behave for better understanding among them. When two or more people interact we have what is called a “transaction” and from there the concept of transactional analysis came in existence. Transactional analysis is very useful and fascinating framework for analyzing the behaviour of both ourselves and that of other people. It is a tool which managers/employees can learn to use to increase their motivation.
