Abstract
Methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE), a main constituent of oxygenated fuel, enables more complete combustion, is used to reduce carbon monoxide and ozone in urban air, and boosts fuel octane. The concentration of MTBE added to gasoline is up to 15%, and the amount of MTBE in gasoline has increased from 8 to 22% in some places" 2). Ethyl tertiary-butyl ether (ETBE) and tertiary-amyl methyl ether (TAME) are also used in reformulated gasoline". Partition coefficients between blood and air and between tissue and blood are prerequisite parameters for understanding the toxicokinetics of a chemical compound. In this study, we determined the partition coefficients for MTBE, ETBE, TAME and their major metabolites in water, blood, olive oil and various tissues from rats.
