Abstract
The triazine moiety holds a special position in the field of medicinal chemistry owing to its vast biological and pharmacological potential. Over decades, the moiety has been investigated for developing molecules that may be used for treatment of a plethora of pathological conditions like inflammation, cancer, infections etc. A number of lead molecules have been developed from the triazine moiety. Fusion of triazine with other heterocyclic rings like imidazoles, pyrroles etc. have produced several bicyclic with biological actions. The wide spectrum of activities displayed by triazines, and the development of several commercial drugs containing triazines has made the interest of chemists worldwide grow over years in the moiety. In the present review, the commercially available molecules with triazine have been presented and an attempt has been made to compile the works reported, primarily in the last decade, by various researchers, related to the structural variations amongst the triazine derivatives presenting antimicrobial, anticancer and other bioactivities. The objective of the present review was to summarize the recent reports on triazine and its analogs with respect to their biological potential. The content of the review would be helpful to update the researchers working towards synthesis and designing of new molecules for treatment of several diseases with the recent molecules that have been produced from the triazine scaffold.
