Abstract
4-hydroxybutyric acid (4-HB) is used in the practice of anesthesia, as a sedative in the Intensive Care Unit and as a hypnotic drug in psychiatry (20). It was observed that when after an intravenous bolus injection in the time course of surgery a small dosis was given repeatedly, this resulted in a very prolonged sleeping time in the recovery room.
