Abstract
Tetramisole was introduced as an anthelmintic for veterinary use in 1965. It is a racemic mixture of two optical isomers and it has been demonstrated that the anthelmintic activity rests almost solely with the l-isomer, levamisole. In addition to its anthelmintic properties, levamisole also possesses an immunomodulating effect8, which has led to its widespread use in human as well as in veterinary medicine. This extensive use makes pharmacokinetic studies desirable and the purpose of the present study has therefore been to determine pharmacokinetic parameters for levamisole in goats and pigs and to measure its excretion in urine and faeces.
