Abstract
Abstract The calcium salt of the monoethyl ester of phosphonic acid was used as a comonomer for synthesizing poly(ethylene tetrephthalate), containing an ionic bond in its main chain. It was established that higher P and Ca contents reduce the relative viscosity and increase the content of oligomers and diethylene glycol. With 0.4% P and 0.25% Ca, the modified resin has the following characteristics: ηrel = 1.384; —COOH = 54.27 mg eqv. KOH/g × 10−6; m.p. 241–242°; oligomers = 3.24%; diethylene glycol = 6.09%. The comonomer gives a thermostabilizing effect. The modified resin has improved flame resistance.
