Abstract
Summary The photochemical reaction of tricarbonyl- η 6 -1,3,5-cycloheptatrienechromium(0) with the cyclic dienes spiro [4.4]nona-1,3-diene and 1,3-cyclohexadiene yields the cycloadducts tricarbonyl- η 6 -spiro [1′-cyclopentane-11-tricyclo-[6.3.1 2,7 .0 1,8 ]dodeca-3,5,9-triene]chromium(0) and tricarbonyltricyclo-[6.3.2.0 2,7 ]trideca-3,5,9-trienechromium(0). The tetracyclic and tricyclic triene ligands are formed by a [2+6] and a [2+4] cycloaddition with successive 1,5-H-shifts. Removal of the polycyclic trienes can be achieved with trimethylphosphite. With tricarbonyldiglymemolybdenum the trienes form the corresponding molybdenum complexes. The structures of these complexes were determined by NMR, IR and mass spectroscopy.
