Abstract
The photolysis of 1‐fluoro‐2‐, 1‐fluoro‐3‐, and 1‐ffluoro‐4‐trifluoromethylbenzene has been studied in the gas phase at excitation wavelengths of 248, 253.7, and 265 nm, respectively. At 248 nm, the quantum yield of the 1,2 isomer to give the 1,3 isomer was about 0.29 × 10−3; that of the 1,3 isomer to give the 1,2 isomer was 0.03 × 10−3; and to give the 1,4 isomer was 0.09 × 10−3. At the same wavelength, the yield of the 1,3 isomer from the 1,4 isomer was 0.36 × 10−3. Increase of the excitation wavelength, in general caused decrease in isomerization quantum yields. The quantum yield of isomerization of the 1,2 to the 1,3 isomer increased with increase in pressure, and a small increase was noticed for the 1,3 isomer. No pressure effect was noticed for isomerization of the 1,4 isomer.
