Abstract
Abstract We have studied the photolysis of 1,2-dibromo 3-chloro propane dissolved to traces in water, in the possible presence of hydrogen peroxide. This compound accelerates the photodegradation kinetic velocity. In pure water and water containing hydrogen peroxide, the principal photoproducts, identified by gaseous phase chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry, are the same: 1-bromo 3-chloro 2-propanone, 2-bromo 3-chloro propanol, 1-bromo 3-chloro 2-propanol, 1-chloro 2-propanone, 3-bromo 1-chloro propene (Z and E), acetone and methanol. Hydrogen peroxide addition does not influence appreciably the nature of the photoproducts formed.
